Grade 8's Making the Season Brighter

As a continuation of our College Park Kindness Project, the Grade 8s took up the torch for December.   As a group, they worked to address kindness in three ways:

  1. In our community at large - by encouraging our students and staff to bring in items for the Men’s Shelter.  This was in the form of toiletries, winter clothing, and other necessities.
  2. In our neighborhood - students went out shoveling driveways and sidewalks in the community and encouraged residents to pay kindness forward.
  3. In our world - we partnered with a very high needs elementary school in Red Deer and had a used clothing drive for the families of that school. The average income for those providing for children at the school is between $11,000 - $17,000, and the donations were greatly appreciated.

Class ambassadors met vehicles and collected donations at the front of the school from December 13th - 21st, and the students did great work in making the Christmases and Holidays of those in need a little brighter!

The Grade 8 classes would like to extend a huge thank-you to our College Park families for helping support their kindness project.

Grade 1's - Be Kind to Yourself

This month the Grade 1's challenged College Park School to be kind to yourself! Be kind to yourself - in words, action and appreciation! We had a blooming with kindness flower garden for students and staff. They were asked write something they are good at, something that makes them special, something about themselves that they hope other people know or notice. It sure turned out beautiful! Grade 1's also decorated their own doors with flowers as unique as them. Each flower had positive messages about the students which brightened up our hallways.  At the beginning of the month we read a book about planting "seeds of kindness". We then planted flower seeds and watched them grow. At the end of the month, we spread our kindness to the community as we delivered the potted plants to houses around College Park.  Check out their month!   https://spark.adobe.com/video/hIYuUdaN9Zq3i

Grade 4 Kind to the Environment

With April being home to Earth Day, the grade four classes set our to design their kindness campaign around the environment.  Each class shared environmental quotes on the school TVs to help set the theme throughout the month.  During April, all Grade 4 classes took part in a Litterless Lunch challenge to help reduce our everyday garbage, and challenged other classes around the school to take part as well.  At the end of the month, our school total was 984 litterless lunches! After Easter break, our students braved the snow to clean up around the paths leading away from our school.  The students were surprised at the amount of things they found and were very proud of the impact that they made together.  Check out some of their hilights.

Grade Five - Kindness is in the Cards

The grade five classes showed kindness in the month of November by cleaning up the boot rooms and recognizing the efforts of everyone in the building. Each staff member received a card made by the students to say thank you for contributing to our school. They loved making the cards and had a lot of fun delivering them to everyone! Check out their month of kindness video ! Next up, Grade 8!
