Grade 1's - Be Kind to Yourself

This month the Grade 1's challenged College Park School to be kind to yourself! Be kind to yourself - in words, action and appreciation! We had a blooming with kindness flower garden for students and staff. They were asked write something they are good at, something that makes them special, something about themselves that they hope other people know or notice. It sure turned out beautiful! Grade 1's also decorated their own doors with flowers as unique as them. Each flower had positive messages about the students which brightened up our hallways.  At the beginning of the month we read a book about planting "seeds of kindness". We then planted flower seeds and watched them grow. At the end of the month, we spread our kindness to the community as we delivered the potted plants to houses around College Park.  Check out their month!   https://spark.adobe.com/video/hIYuUdaN9Zq3i

Grade 4 Kind to the Environment

With April being home to Earth Day, the grade four classes set our to design their kindness campaign around the environment.  Each class shared environmental quotes on the school TVs to help set the theme throughout the month.  During April, all Grade 4 classes took part in a Litterless Lunch challenge to help reduce our everyday garbage, and challenged other classes around the school to take part as well.  At the end of the month, our school total was 984 litterless lunches! After Easter break, our students braved the snow to clean up around the paths leading away from our school.  The students were surprised at the amount of things they found and were very proud of the impact that they made together.  Check out some of their hilights.

Grade 2 Project - Kindness is not an Act - It's a Lifestyle

The Grade 2 students had a busy month spreading kindness in our school and community. We kicked off the month with our Little Silver Box initiative. With the help of Mr. Smith, the Grade 2 students each made 3 little silver boxes. The silver boxes were created to be shared amongst the students and staff at College Park School. Students were asked to give away their silver box when they noticed a random act of kindness or when they had something kind they wanted to say to someone else. We enjoyed watching all of the little silver boxes and kind words get spread throughout our school. We also demonstrated kindness when we visited the residents of the Dr. Hemstock Assisted Living Residency. We shared our love of singing and reading and brought smiles to many faces that day, including ours. We can’t wait to see what the Grade 4’s can do in April! Kindness is not an act. It is a lifestyle. ~ Anthony Douglas Williams Check out the Grade 2 Kindness Project

Kindergarten Kindness - Connecting with Community

The Kindergarten classes from College Park School had a tremendous amount of fun as we spread kindness during the month of February.  We chose to focus our efforts on seniors, the neighborhood and our school community.  We knew we wanted to share kindness by making those around us happy and by being thankful.  We chose to share our love of singing to make others happy.  We traveled to two local senior's residences:  the Hemstock and the Pioneer Lodge.  We visited with the seniors, we shared some songs & cookies and we made a craft while we were there.  There were lots of smiles and lots of sharing.  It made our hearts very full :)  We also shared our love of singing with staff members as well as our older reading buddies in the school.  We then went even further into the community.  We made "Thank You" cards for families in the neighborhood.  Our cards were to show how grateful we are for good neighbors in the College Park ...

What's New Pussy Cat - Grade 3 Kindness Campaign

In January the grade threes led the kindness campaign with a theme of being kind to animals.  With the help of our amazing College Park community, they collected nearly a thousand items for the SPCA.  Pet food, pet toys, pet supplies, cleaning supplies, office supplies, gift cards and Canadian tire money were all donated.  On Monday, February 4th, the grade 3 teachers and 9 lucky students got to deliver our collected donations to the SPCA.  The donations filled their entire front entrance!  Staff were overjoyed and very surprised with amount College Park donated.  Click here to check out what their month looked like!    Thank you to everyone who helped support this project.

Grade 8's Making the Season Brighter

As a continuation of our College Park Kindness Project, the Grade 8s took up the torch for December.   As a group, they worked to address kindness in three ways: In our community at large - by encouraging our students and staff to bring in items for the Men’s Shelter.  This was in the form of toiletries, winter clothing, and other necessities. In our neighborhood - students went out shoveling driveways and sidewalks in the community and encouraged residents to pay kindness forward. In our world - we partnered with a very high needs elementary school in Red Deer and had a used clothing drive for the families of that school. The average income for those providing for children at the school is between $11,000 - $17,000, and the donations were greatly appreciated. Class ambassadors met vehicles and collected donations at the front of the school from December 13th - 21st, and the students did great work in making the Christmases and Holidays of those in need a l...

Grade Five - Kindness is in the Cards

The grade five classes showed kindness in the month of November by cleaning up the boot rooms and recognizing the efforts of everyone in the building. Each staff member received a card made by the students to say thank you for contributing to our school. They loved making the cards and had a lot of fun delivering them to everyone! Check out their month of kindness video ! Next up, Grade 8!
